What is Merino Wool

Merino wool is one of the most versatile fabrics among natural fibers, and recently has become the ideal choice to realize high quality base layers and jerseys. Warm in winter and breathable in summer, Merino wool’s natural insulation and moisture-management properties provides a soft, smooth feel next to skin.

How is Merino wool different from ordinary wool

Merino wool’s difference from ordinary wool is the fineness of the wool fibers. This property reduces skin irritation, and its natural ability to manage moisture provides incomparable feeling and comfort. Merino wool is also naturally odor resistant, that is a great advantage compared to synthetic fibers that require frequent washing.

Resistance and Performance

To further improve the great features of Merino wool, and to realize a range of products of lighter and less bulky weight, we selected one of the best fabric on the market, realized in Italy with New Zealander Merino wool fibers, along with a synthetic one, that happily come together to join the thermoregulatory and odor resistant features of natural wool on one hand, and the durability and the fast drying capacity of the fiber on the other.

Origin, sustainability and certifications

La Passione prohibits mulesing in our Merino wool supply chain. Mulesing is an unbearable procedure in which chunks of skin are cut from animals’ backside, most often without painkillers, to prevent the infestation of wounded sheep by blowflies or maggots. La Passione requires non-mulesed declarations and certificates from our fabric suppliers to ensure that these prohibited procedures are not put in place, and with maximum respect of high standards on animal welfare.

Care and Washing

The Merino wool used in our products is machine washable. However we highly recommend to wash it not over 30°C in washing machine and to lay the Merino product flat to air dry and to do not tumble dry it.
